Knee injury claim pays out £54,000 for school boy rugby player

A school boy rugby player has been awarded £54,000 in compensation for a knee injury claim after suing the club where he was injured. Jack Sutton (who was 16 at the time of the accident) was playing for the under-17 team at Syston Rugby Club in Leicestershire when he suffered the injury to his knee. The injury was described in court as a ‘serious and disabling fracture’ of the right kneecap.

After the accident an investigation found that Mr Sutton had injured himself on a broken plastic cricket boundary marker, which protruded half an inch above the ground but was hidden by the grass of the training pitch.

Mr Sutton had his rugby career ended by the injury.

He later sued Syston Rugby Football Club Ltd claiming it was negligent in not carrying out a thorough enough pre-match pitch inspection.
