Number of cyclists killed on the roads are increasing
While overall road casualties between September 2010 and September 2011 shows a fall of 5%, the Department for Transport (DfT) has revealed that this same period there was an 8% rise in the number of cyclists killed or seriously injured and of these cyclists approximately 1 in 5 are children.
Are the roads becoming more dangerous for cyclists or are there increased numbers of people cycling causing the rise?
Unfortunately, there is no way of accurately measuring cycle usage.
The government and local councils should be encouraged to look again at road layouts with a view to making roads more cyclist friendly. In conjunction, promoting better awareness among other road users and increasing training for cyclists must be improved.
MLP Injury Lawyers have helped hundreds of cyclists recover compensation arising from non-fault accidents.
Recently, we achieved a settlement of in excess of £200,000 for a cyclist who was knocked off his bike by a driver of a car.
